Step 1:-

Ingredients and supplies:-
  • Half cup chopped onion
  • Half cup chopped celery
  • Half cup chopped carrot
  • Garlic 1 clove, chopped.
  • Half cup of carrots
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 or more lbs of ham bone
  • 1 cup dry split peas
  • A pinch of pepper
  • 2 cups water
  • Large pot with lid
  • Knife

Step 2:-

Prepare the ingredients. Chop the onions, carrots and celery. Rinse the peas. You can also take them to help them cook faster, but this is not necessary.

Step 3:-

Combine all the ingredients. In a large saucepan, combine the chicken broth, garlic, split peas, bay leaf, water and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, cover and simmer for one hour. It is optional to use a smoked ham bone, adjust for additional salt content, replacing some chicken broth with water. Keep stirring it from time to time. Then remove bay leaf from the soup mix.

Add other ingredients to the soup. Add the carrots, celery and onion to the soup. Return the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook for another 20 or 30 minutes.

Step 5:-

Puree with soup. If you want a much finer texture, puree the soup in the blender for better consistency. But, it tastes simply awesome when it is a bit chunkier form. It still depends on what you would prefer, in the same uniformity or stocky. If you are adding the ham, you can add the ham back into the mix before or after you mash the soup, depending on whether you want the ham slices, ham flavour, or just the split pea soup recipe vegetarian.

To serve, add salt, and pepper to taste, and then serve hot with biscuits or bread on the side. Add a little “parsley or a few bread crumbs to garnish, if desired.
